Anatabloc is a dietary supplement made by Star Scientific, and it has been specifically marketed by this company as a “wonder drug” that has “miraculous medical benefits and uses.” Anatabloc, which is reportedly derived from a chemical (an anatabine alkaloid) found in potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant, has been sold at retail stores nationwide. On both this dietary supplement’s packaging and the company’s website, Star Scientific has marketed Anatabloc as being effective at treating (or, in some cases, the marketing materials for this drug claimed it could even cure) a number of serious and some chronic health conditions, including (but not limited to):

FDA Anatabloc Warning
As this Anatabloc class action case moves forward, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reportedly taking its own action against Star Scientific. In fact, in a December 2013 warning letter sent to Star Scientific, the FDA specifically pointed out the numerous violations this company had committed and ordered it to take corrective actions within 15 working days. The specific violations that Star Scientific had allegedly committed, according to the FDA Anatabloc warning letter, were as follows:
Star Scientific distributed and marketed Anatabloc without the necessary FDA approval to do so.
Star Scientific claimed that this dietary supplement was safe and effective for the treatment of various conditions despite the fact that it had no evidence from clinical trials to back up these statements.
Star Scientific misbranded Anatabloc and failed to “to bear adequate directions for use” on its labeling.
