Polaris Recalls Ranger XP Kinetic and Pro XD Kinetic Due to Fire Hazard
Urgent Fire Hazard Forces Polaris to Recall Nearly 5,000 Ranger XP Kinetic and Pro XD Kinetic ROVs
Polaris Industries has issued an urgent recall of approximately 4,900 recreational off-highway vehicles in the United States due to a serious fire hazard Polaris ROV owners face. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced this voluntary recall on June 18, 2025, affecting all Model Year 2023-2024 Ranger XP Kinetic and Model Year 2025 Pro XD Kinetic vehicles. Water can leak through a cracked filter into the ROV’s high-voltage charging harness components and cause a short circuit, creating a dangerous fire risk that could result in severe injury or property damage.
This Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic recall comes after the company received 47 reports of filter failures, including six alarming incidents involving melting or fire and four additional reports of sparking or smoke. While no injuries have been reported yet, the potential for serious harm has prompted immediate action from both Polaris and federal safety regulators. The recall also includes 185 accessory charger service parts and kits, with an additional 330 units sold in Canada.
If you own one of these vehicles and have experienced fires, sparking, or other dangerous malfunctions, you may be entitled to compensation beyond the free repair. Our lawyers at Alonso Krangle, LLP understand the serious risks posed by defective products and can help you pursue legal action if you’ve suffered injuries or property damage.
Which Polaris Vehicles Are Affected by This Dangerous Fire Hazard
The recall encompasses all Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) of specific Polaris models sold between April 2023 and March 2025. The Ranger Pro XD Kinetic recall affects Model Year 2025 vehicles, while the Ranger XP Kinetic recall covers Model Year 2023-2024 vehicles. These recreational off-highway vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide for prices ranging from $24,000 to $37,500.
The recalled Ranger XP Kinetic vehicles were sold in camouflage and white colors, featuring three-seat configurations with “POLARIS” stamped on the front grille. The Pro XD Kinetic vehicles have distinctive gray plastic body panels with black frames and accents, also in three-seat configurations. Vehicle owners can locate their VIN printed on the left rear frame (driver’s side) under the cargo box.
The recall also includes specific accessory charger service parts and kits with part numbers 2417296, 2417297, 2889704, and 2889486. These components share the same Polaris charging system defect that creates the fire hazard, making them equally dangerous to use.
The Hidden Danger: How a Cracked Filter Creates a Fire Risk
Polaris has determined that a crack may develop on a component within the vehicle’s charging system, specifically a filter that’s supposed to protect the high-voltage charging harness. When this filter cracks, water can penetrate into the high-voltage charging harness components during the charging process. This water intrusion can cause a short circuit while the vehicle is being charged, potentially resulting in fire and posing a significant risk of severe injury.
The defective Polaris vehicles create a particularly dangerous situation because the fire hazard occurs during charging, often when the vehicle is stored in garages, sheds, or other enclosed spaces near homes or other structures. This means the fire risk extends beyond just the vehicle itself to potentially threaten surrounding property and family safety.
What makes this defect especially concerning is that owners may not notice the initial crack in the filter, as it can develop gradually over time. The first sign of trouble might be sparking, smoke, or actual fire – all of which represent serious safety emergencies requiring immediate action.
Immediate Action Required for Owner Safety
Polaris is contacting all registered owners directly and providing specific instructions on how to continue operating their vehicles until repairs can be completed. However, owners should contact an authorized Polaris dealer immediately to schedule a free repair at the dealer’s location. The company has made interim operation guidelines available through their recall notification system.
Vehicle owners can check if their specific VIN is included in this or other recalls by visiting Polaris’s off-road recalls website or calling the company toll-free at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. Polaris also offers support through their Owner Connections team via email at Owner.Connections@polaris.com or through an online forum accessible on their help center website.
While waiting for repairs, owners should exercise extreme caution when charging their vehicles and avoid charging in enclosed spaces whenever possible. Any signs of sparking, smoke, unusual odors, or other abnormal behavior during charging should prompt immediate discontinuation of use and contact with Polaris dealers.
Free Repairs Available but Legal Rights May Extend Beyond
Polaris dealers are providing free repairs for all affected vehicles, which involves fixing or replacing the defective filter component in the charging system. The company initiated this recall process on March 6, 2025, following their notification to the CPSC, with the official announcement coming on June 18, 2025.
However, if you’ve already experienced fire damage, property loss, or injuries related to this defect, a free repair may not fully compensate you for your losses. Product liability law recognizes that manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure their products are safe for consumer use.
Understanding Your Legal Rights After a Polaris Fire Incident
When a defective product causes fires, property damage, or injuries, manufacturers can be held legally responsible for the harm their products cause. This Polaris recall demonstrates that the company was aware of the fire hazard and the potential for serious consequences. If you’ve suffered losses due to this charging system defect, you may be entitled to compensation that goes far beyond a free repair.
Product liability cases involving fire hazards can result in compensation for medical expenses, property damage, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. The fact that Polaris received 47 reports of filter failures, including six fire incidents, before issuing this recall raises important questions about when the company knew or should have known about the danger.
Our experienced attorneys at Alonso Krangle, LLP have handled numerous cases involving defective recreational vehicles and understand the complex technical and legal issues these cases present. We work with experts who can analyze the defective charging system, investigate the timeline of Polaris’s knowledge about the problem, and build a strong case for compensation.
Don’t Wait – Time Limits Apply to Product Liability Claims
If you’ve experienced a fire, property damage, or injuries related to your Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic or Pro XD Kinetic vehicle, it’s crucial to act quickly. Legal claims involving defective products are subject to strict time limitations, and evidence can be lost or degraded over time. The sooner you contact our lawyers, the better we can preserve important evidence and protect your rights.
Even if you haven’t yet experienced a fire but have noticed sparking, smoke, unusual odors, or other warning signs, documenting these issues now could be important if problems develop later. Taking photographs, keeping maintenance records, and reporting problems to Polaris creates a paper trail that can be valuable in legal proceedings.
